Having the formal name of Ludwig, he is known to friends and students by his nickname, Lou.

He holds a degree in music from Harvard University (B.A. with honors), pursued graduate studies in music at the University of California, Berkeley, and at San Francisco State University, where he received an M.A. in music composition.

His richly varied and attractive background is one of the reasons students have traveled to his studio for weekly lessons, coming from a range of over twenty cities along the California coast and inland, stretching from Santa Barbara to Hollywood. With online lessons, the geographic range expanded and his students are now found in states as diverse as Maryland, Florida, Texas, Hawaii, California and Michigan.

He has served as an adjudicator in music competitions, including the Quick Bowman Piano Competition of Sedona, AZ (now relocated to the New West Symphony in Ventura County, CA.)

As a pianist, he has given numerous recitals and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras. He studied the piano under internationally recognized artists. One was Adolf Baller, who toured around the world with violinist Yehudi Menuhin. Another was Istvan Nadas, who also toured around the world, performing as a soloist with orchestras, and was himself a prized piano pupil of Bartok.

Of equal renown were his teachers in composition, including Leon Kirschner at Harvard and Roger Nixon in San Francisco.

As a composer, Lou writes for various media, including orchestra, chorus, chamber, and solo. His works have been presented in numerous venues in Europe, the USA, South America, and on television, as well as on radio broadcasts in dozens of countries worldwide.

As a college professor, Lou served on the faculty of the Chicago Conservatory College, where he taught piano, composition, music theory, classical music, American music from ragtime to jazz, and non-Western music.

As a music producer, he has owned and managed a professional production facility, where he created and produced music for television. He is a full member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). In addition, he has ample experience in choral conducting and audio engineering.

This wealth of background in piano performance, creative work, music production, and 25 years of effective teaching comes into play in every lesson he gives. It has equipped him to work with students and clients on all levels and in many aspects of music.
